MedAid International funds new Ukrainian partner focused on veterans rehabilitation

MedAid International is pleased to announce a new funding partnership with Hopeful Future, following a successful 4-month pilot. Across communities in Ukraine, Hopeful Future runs peer-to-peer support groups for veterans to rebuild lives, families and help long-term recovery.

In Lviv last week, we saw how impressive their work is. Over the course of 3 days, veterans open up and process deep mental and physical wounds and trauma, following the Hopeful Future’s programme centered on moral injury. Each workshop identifies veterans who then receive training and become facilitators of future workshops in their communities across the country.

The stories are too painful to relay here. Left untreated, they lead to a deep sense of alienation, family breakdowns, addictions and suicides. Instead, together with Hopeful Future, we aim to help recovery and healing, and support Ukrainian civil society which could face, once the war ends, an estimated 1.5 million deeply traumatised soldiers returning home.
